  1. Andy O'Briens Free Press 12/6/18 article: “Salmon farm foes & supporters spar at Community Meeting” does not properly explain the David Noyes discussion with myself at Nordic Aquafarms informational session..

According to internet searches on that subject experts contradict David Noyes answer to my question saying that artificially salting fish tank water causes no fish deformities – salt (NaCl) actually reduces parasites attacking fish, but other chemicals, acidification & radiation from nuclear power plants like Fukushima do cause fish deformities. Penobscot Bay contains mercury, gasoline from Internal combustion exhaust, & diesel fuel from lobster boats, Coast Guard Cutter, Navy, freighter, tanker, cruise ship, ferry, windjammer, & yacht engines which could deform aqua-farm fish. Runoff from storm drains & sewers contain deforming toxins. Ocean acidification according to multiple internet sources cause fish deformities too, according to multiple internet sources. It may be harmful as micro-plastics from humanity's irresponsible waste trash & gasoline & diesel habits along with these acids turning oceans into sewers.

NAF said they will filter effluent as well as influent with a 5/100 th of 1 millionth of 1 meter [micron] sieve that removes tiniest particles which could be micro-nutrients as well as harmful elements while letting liquids go through. If Nordic Aqua-farm wants an ocean intake pipe it is their prerogative, perhaps harmful to their aqua-farm, but not necessary.

Because first industrial revolution dams centuries ago blocked their normal travel routes to sea, land-locked Atlantic Salmon have been living completely in Maine fresh water lakes for decades When I was young my grandfather caught land-locked Moosehead lake Atlantic Salmon up to 30 pounds living completely in fresh water. Apparently these Salmon must be getting enough natural fresh water micro-nutrients to grow to almost a meter in length.

So although I disagree with David's answer I don't object to development of this facility in Belfast as long as they leave the green space along the Reservoir undisturbed for hikers like myself to use. I wouldn't want it on the watershed of a drinking water source in my own town, but I don't live in Belfast; I only shop there.

Before the session, reports said questions would be written on cards but inside citizens were allowed to question orally. Moderator should have asked all of question I wrote rather than just the last 10 words. NAF staff were polite, patient & willing to remain 2.5 hours answering questions which were often insensitive & ill informed. Investors risking considerable funds building this facility for a noble purpose, to feed the world, should be respected more than they were. If Belfast rejects this proposal, small towns like Appleton whose taxes increased sharply due to falling assessed valuations could benefit from RAS aqua-farm like that proposed by NAF because it could reduce soaring property tax rates by increasing total assessed valuation & spur the economy I prefer to see this project in my home town instead of in Belfast's Water District.

A few decades hence, “ocean acidification”, humans burning carbon fuels creating excess carbon dioxide combining with water to form carbonic acid & nitric oxide which reacts with water creating nitric acid, poisoning oceans may leave mankind without fresh seafood & Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which prevent heart attack & stroke, provenance. Aqua-farm grown fish may be the only seafood source in the dystopia which our oceans are evolving into.
