Penobscot Bay's Aquaculture: Filter Feeders and Photosynthesizers only. Remaining issues - consolidation, fishing and navigation space

LOCAL, STATE & FEDERAL LICENSES & PERMITS AFFECTING THE BAY

* AQUACULTURE  Know your bay's nature based aquaculture.

The number of algae and shellfish farms in Penobscot Bay has grown markedly in recent years.    And more applicants all the time.  One hopes that a Great Consolidation does not take place  as it did in finfish aquacujlture.  DMR's online clickable map  shows both  existing licensed and leased Maine marine aquaculture sites. The still image extract  below  is  DMR's   most recent map of bayfarms in Penobscot Bay and Bluehill Bay.

Think of each of those dots as a clean water advocate, with lawful standing  on bay permits of all types that could affect the health of the native  plankton that those  caged filterfeeders MUST  have committed to the sustainment and  betterment  of Penobscot Bay's water quality, to the betterment of their filterfarms and algae farms.
